A Single Report Design for Multiple Output Formats
StyleVision’s unique document-oriented report design model makes it possible to create visually compelling and information-rich report designs that be automatically generated for multiple output formats. Your one design simultaneously creates a compelling business report in Web and print ready formats including HTML, PDF, RTF, and Word (Open XML).
All StyleVision report designs can leverage the full power of industry standards such as CSS, XPath, and XSLT, and can include content types including rich text, charts and graphs, barcodes, and more. StyleVision report designers stay focused on delivering business-oriented reports, however, and are not burdened with low-level technology or standards details.
StyleVision supports dynamic reporting, letting you create layout templates for consistent formatting while allowing actual report content to be determined at run-time based on your source data. This lets you retain your intricate report designs from one project to the next.
To create a report design in StyleVision, simply specify your XML, database, or XBRL source(s), and the content model will appear in the Schema Tree entry helper. You can even incorporate data from multiple sources – such as an XML file and a database – in your design.
Next comes a high-level choice between free-flow and form-based document options. You may, of course, combine free-flow and form-based design elements in one report.
When you select an element or attribute that you wish to see in your report and drag it from the Schema Tree window onto the design pane, StyleVision prompts you to specify how you would like the new node to be handled (as a new paragraph, image, table, etc.). This information will be rendered dynamically based on the data in your source(s). You can also insert static content such as header text, images, hyperlinks, and so on.
Free-flow Report Design
Free-flow documents are usually narrative, and used for reports, documentation, books, and similar domains. Text, images, tables, and other design elements can all be mixed on a page and are automatically positioned according to their size. Pages are automatically generated, text can be wrapped to fit the page, and table auto-width settings can be used to fit a table to the page size.
Form-based Report Creation
A form-based report design is perfect for creating input forms containing edit controls, labels, images, or tables placed on a page using absolute positioning. Each page of the report is usually designed independently. If you have an existing form on paper, you can scan it and supply it as a blueprint image, allowing you to position design elements matching the original form locations.
