XML Inclusions (XInclude) is a W3C standard for building large XML documents from multiple smaller documents. XInclude allows you to include entire documents or document fragments identified using XPointer in one file. The XMLSpy 2008 validator supports both XInclude and XPointer when validating XML documents. To help you compose XInclude statements, the XMLSpy text and grid views provide a handy dialog box that allows you to enter a file name or browse to select a file to include, select values for the encoding and parse attributes, and select a fall back element for the XInclude statement. Then you can preview the contents of the XInclude element before it is inserted in your document.
XMLSpy also includes the Copy XPointer command, which composes the XPointer expression that corresponds to the selected portion of a document and copies it to the clipboard.
Then, you can insert it as an XPointer attribute in an XInclude statement easily.
When a file that has XInclude elements is parsed, XMLSpy replaces the referenced file names with the contents of the specified files. See how easy it is to work with XInclude and XPointer in XMLSpy. Download a free 30-day trial today! | ![]() |
