Topic: Why is DatabaseSpy so slow?!
Posted: Monday, May 18, 2009 3:05:48 PM
Hello,

I would like to analyze some open source software like phpBB, Typo3, Drupal. For that I want to have a visual representation of tables in the database which can be created with DatabaseSpy.

However, DatabaseSpy is extremely slow. When placing all tables of phpBB3 (56 tables) in the "Design Editor", I can zoom and pan the view with a frame rate of 2-3 fps (although the workstation I am using is quite modern: dual core, 3GB ram, ATI FireGL). Is this 'normal' or is there some misconfiguration present?

Hello,

I am using the MySQL server installed with XAMPP. What driver should I select to connect to my database?

This is how I am trying to establish the connection:

Menu: File -> Create a Database Connection
-> Connection Wizard
-> MySQL (ODBC)
-> Create a new Data Source Name (DSN) with the driver:

Now here is a list of drivers available. Most of them are from Microsoft and obviously not suitable for me because dealing with files. I decided to try the driver "SQL Server" and "SQL Native Client".

Nothing works for me! Need help.
