Okay. The bad thing about this exception is that the resulting XQuery does not follow specification. It'll work fine under Altova tools, but it will most likely fail under everything else that follows specification. Unless the user knows this, he or she will be clueless on why the XQuery is not working under other tools.
Also, under Windows 7, URIs are supported. I can enter the following in the Windows Explorer address bar or in Start|Run:
file:/C:/Temp/file.txt
The file.txt file will open in the associated application.

I understand that the original poster left out the curly braces resulting in incorrect results from the query.
However, there is a second issue with this XQuery. I am surprised that it is working at all.
fn:doc requires a URI as a parameter. The poster did not use a valid URI. How is this working at all? Here it is documented in the XQuery specification. A valid URI, in this example, would be:
file:/C:/test/output_1204.xml

A concurrent license is not cost effective at all for my needs (the cost is very very high). Two licenses is a better option, but that is costly too. It looks like the licensing is not as flexible as I would like.

Thank you. I did not know that concurrent licenses were available. It seems that this would be a good choice for me. I will have to check the pricing for it.

Okay.
So given the example I posted in my first message (in which I am the sole user and no version ever executes on any of my computer simultaneously), I would require two licenses?
I have one desktop at work, one desktop at home, and one laptop. I can only use one computer at a time.

Hello.
I am interested in new XML, XSLT and XQuery development tools, but I have a question in regards to restrictions of your license. If I am the sole user of a MissionKit package, am I permitted to install the software on all of my computers? I have three computers, but I am the only user of the software. No version will ever execute simulataneously on any of my computers. I have two desktops and a laptop that I would like to install the software on. Is this permitted, or is your license per computer and not per user?
Thanks.

I've been evaluating a few diff/merge utilities. Your product is in a great position, because yours is the only one (that I've found) that parses and merges XML files.
However, your product could use some enhancements to make diff'ing and merging easier:
1. Integrate into the Windows explorer with context menu items for selecting files to diff and merge. All other good diff/merge utilities allow this.
2. Persist settings or allow setting defaults for all of them. When I compare two XML documents, why must I turn Pretty Print on for each one individually everytime I start the tool?
3. Add 3-way comparison and diff. This is crucial for using the tool with source control software.
