The Belgian Central Bank publishes (free of charge) the financial statements of all Belgian companies (both in pdf and xbrl).
Does anyone have any experience working with the xbrl-files?
I have difficulty isolating specific data from the file (either I get a whole page/block of amounts or none at all).
How can I retrieve from these files (i.e.) the amount of profit/loss a company made?

XBRL is very complex - you will have to read StyleVision documentation and review XBRL examples to get the job done.

Been there, done that (obviously not up to expert level but still I read more than a couple of sentences).
I searched white papers, went through the Stylevision guide, did a search on this forum, took the online training.
I don't need to build any xbrl. My goal is simply to retrieve the information from files (official source so I assume they're standard compliant) and build reports with them.
In the training course they grab the financial statement from the XBRL taxonomy and place it in the main window.
When I do the same, my previews come up empty.

Well, in this case pack all your files, go to Altova Support and show them what you've done - they will be able to tell what was wrong.

How about attaching an example of your file here...
