Asking as a rookie - if possible, how can I set up swim lanes in an activity diagram?

UML 2 calls them Activity Partitions. Just click on the icon then click in your diagram. You can add new lanes by right clicking the parent and choosing to add a new partition. You can also easily rename each partition.
