Hi,
does anybody knows if it is planned to support additional RDBMS like Firebird? :-)

I guess there will be native support when there is enough demand for it. So contact support and ask for it. If the question is already registered, your vote will be added to the count and otherwise it might get registered.
In the meantime, if you can connect through ADO or ODBC you might be able to use it. Try if you haven't done already. If it doesn't work correctly in the current edition, it might do so in the next. For exampe, we could not connect to Excel through ODBC anymore, but since this 2009 version we can again.

There is currently an open feature request entry in our internal wishes database to provide support for Firebird. I have added your "request" to this entry.
