Eclipse IntegrationThe Eclipse (eclipse.org) development environment is an increasingly popular platform for Java development, WebSphere work, and other development projects. Integration of UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition with Eclipse allows Eclipse users apply the intuitive UModel interface to create industry-standard UML 2.2 software models and employ advanced code engineering features, with seamless access to the full range of development tools available directly within Eclipse. UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition Eclipse integration supports Eclipse version 3.2 and higher, with Java Runtime Edition 1.4, 5.0, or 6.0. The UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition plug-in for Eclipse provides automatic, real-time synchronization between model and code. You can import existing UModel projects or create new projects in the Eclipse Navigator window, and create an Eclipse Perspective for UModel that displays all the all the UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition diagram views, helper windows, menus, and toolbars in Eclipse as you develop your application. Automatic synchronization between the UModel project and source code lets you refer to – and work in – either the UML software model or the source code editor, confident that both windows display the current project status. Every change you make in one window is immediately reflected in the other.
UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition offers an option in the right-click context menu for class diagrams to conveniently move from your UML model to the corresponding source code, and a similar selection in the source code editor menu to jumb back to your model.
This tight integration between UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition and Eclipse is especially helpful for projects you reverse engineer from existing applications. As you traverse a UML model to explore the existing application architecture, you can make changes in the model and immediately see the effects in corresponding source code files. A UModel® 2009 synchronization option even lets you automatically comment out modified or deleted code to keep a record of your changes. To use UModel® 2009 and Eclipse together, you must first download UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition as well as Eclipse. (The Eclipse IDE is not part of UModel® 2009 Enterprise Edition and must be installed separately.) After you have completed those installs, the final step is to install the UModel® 2009 Integration Package.
