# Compare Data Mappings Visually

### Mapping Differencing

Compare Data Mapping Versions Visually- Compare two versions of a data mapping (MFD)
- See changes in the graphical mapping environment
- Color-coded connections, components, and nodes

- Export diff reports in XML
- Register MapForce as the diff tool for .mfd files
- Open comparisons from your version control client

## Compare MapForce Data Integration Projects

Support for differencing in MapForce makes it easy to see exactly what changed between two versions of the same mapping project. When you initiate a comparison, MapForce displays the differences visually, directly in the graphical mapping environment. New or removed connections, modified data processing functions, and changed components all stand out at a glance.

Color coding makes it easy to understand every change:

- Green: Added in new version
- Red: Removed from new version
- Yellow: Changed properties
- Pink: Changes to node's descendants

When you hover over a change in the Mapping Difference pane, MapForce highlights it in the mapping, and vice versa.

Because you review changes in the same visual form you designed them in, you can quickly:

- Review a colleague's edits before they go into production
- Confirm a change did what you intended
- Pinpoint when and where a mapping started producing different results

You can also export the comparison as an XML diff report for documentation or further processing.

## Support for Source Control Systems

MapForce integrates with source control systems such as Git, Subversion, etc., and can be registered as the diff tool for .mfd data mapping projects. A command line option opens two versions of a mapping and shows the comparison in the graphical mapping environment. When you run a diff from your version control client, or review a change in a pull request, MapForce opens with the two versions side by side and every difference highlighted.

Teams can commit mappings to a shared repository, review each other's changes before merging, and look back through history to see what changed in a mapping and when, all from the tools they already use. Because the diff is visual, you can quickly see which connections and functions changed. That makes reviewing and troubleshooting mapping projects much easier.
