Serious software coders will appreciate the robust, intelligent XML editing features of XML text view, including code completion, entry helpers, line numbers, source folding, a built-in XML validation and well-formedness checker, a find-in-files window, and more.
XML Text ViewXML Text View remains the most popular editing view of XMLSpy® 2011, and we continue to add new features to facilitate XML development. For developers creating XML-based Web sites, Text View even includes a full-featured CSS editor. Previously, editing XML files in a text format could easily result in unbalanced brackets, elements that were not closed properly, or other violations of the well-formedness principle. The code completion functionality in XML Text View helps you avoid these problems by automatically completing the element, as well as inserting all required attributes, as soon as you type the closing bracket on your keyboard. The cursor is then positioned between the start and end tag of the element so that you can easily continue to add child elements or content. Available elements, attributes, and entities as specified by the XML Schema are also selectable from context-sensitive drop down menus and entry helper windows on the XMLSpy® 2011 desktop. Line numbering allows for easy file navigation and correlation to XSLT error messages, and you can go directly to any line and character number using a button on the XMLSpy® 2011 toolbar. Bookmarking lets you set points of reference in the text that you can jump back to at any time. Bookmarks are displayed in the margin adjacent to the line numbers. Source folding lets you expand and collapse portions of a file in XML Text View, taking advantage of the hierarchical structure of XML to present your document in a neat and orderly manner. Indentation guides show the logical links between corresponding opening and closing element tags within the file. Another useful feature of advanced Text View is the pretty-print button, which reformats your XML document by indenting opening and closing element tags so that the layout reflects the structure of the document. Pretty printing makes it easier for the human eye to scan the XML markup and edit the XML document.
XMLSpy's XML Text View also supports multi-lingual spell checking for English (British, US, Canadian), German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Dutch, Swedish, and other languages. It also includes separate English language medical and legal dictionaries.
