XMLSpy Visual Studio FAQ

Visual Studio Integration package

Visual Studio Integration package

  • When I open a .txt file, it opens in the XMLSpy® 2012 Visual Studio integration instead of Visual Studio. How can I change this behaviour?
In order to open certain file types with the Visual Studio .NET editors please select FILE | OPEN | FILE. You will then see the FILE OPEN dialog. From here you must select the file you would like to open and you must then click on the arrow next to the OPEN Button in the OPEN FILE dialog and then select OPEN WITH. Another dialog box will then give you a selection of editors and you can then set the respective editor to be the default editor for that particular file type. The "Use XMLSpy as Default Editor" in the TOOLS | XML SPY OPTIONS | FILE TYPES menu has no bearing on the editor that is used within the Visual Studio Environment.

  • If I have the Visual Studio integration package installed and am editing a file that is not associated to XMLSpy® 2012 within Visual Studio, does this count as one license in use?
If you have opened Visual Studio and open any file that is associated with XMLSpy® 2012 – or use any XMLSpy® 2012 command - the license will be considered in use for the duration of the Visual Studio session. If you want to then edit a file that is not associated with the XMLSpy® 2012 editor we suggest closing Visual Studio and then restarting it to free up the license for another user.
