Altova StyleVision® 2012 allows you to automatically generate ASPX (ASP.NET) applications based on XML or database source data. This means that you can easily deploy dynamic Web sites with design and functionality dictated in StyleVision templates.

ASP.NET is a Web application framework from Microsoft® for creating dynamic Web sites based on the code-behind model, which separates event-based code from appearance and content. ASP.NET Web pages, also sometimes known as Web forms, use the ASPX file extension and can contain static content as well as server-side controls for code execution.

StyleVision generates the following documents:

XML file - containing XML or database source data
XSLT file - containing the layout and other information from the StyleVision template design
C# (.cs) file - reads the XML content or database data and passes it along to AltovaXML together with the XSLT file
ASPX file - executes the code stored in the C# file
ReadMe file - with instructions on how to deploy and run the Web application

The ASPX file provides the URL of the file used in order to view (and implicitly create) the output document. It executes C# code that reads the XML source file or loads data from database tables and passes it to Altova's transformation engine, AltovaXML, together with the XSLT file.

AltovaXML performs a transformation of the XML content using the provided XSLT file. The result is an HTML document, which the Web application then displays in the browser.

When the XML content changes because of changes made to the source file(s), browsing to the ASPX URL, or refreshing the page in the browser, will automatically fetch the most recent data and render an updated document.
