Altova XMLSpy includes numerous features for helping you create valid XML documents quickly and easily. Intelligent editing features such as context-sensitive code completion and entry helper features offer you valid choices based on the content model and your location in a document, and the new, improved validation window offers detailed information about any validation errors in your XML document or project file.
XMLSpy supports validating any XML file based on its associated DTD or XML Schema. The validation window provides granular details about each error, including:
Clicking any error listed in the validation window automatically opens the associated file and highlights the element in question. You can also view errors in the list using the Next and Previous buttons on the validation toolbar, which also automatically open the associated files with errors highlighted. Clicking the purple DEF button next to any message opens the relevant portion of the associated DTD or XML Schema definition, and clicking the blue hyperlinked text next to any error links to the relevant portion of the defining specification on the W3C Web site. The XMLSpy validation window also lists itemized errors when validating multiple files, for example when validating an entire folder in the XMLSpy project view. Now, instead of returning only the first error detected, XMLSpy presents you with validation details for all files that contain errors. The window also supports copying error message information to document and communicate errors quickly and easily, and it provides nine tabs for storing and organizing messages when you decide to run the validator multiple times. For instance, if you validate a project and discover that multiple files have validation errors, you might wish to preserve this list on one tab and re-validate each file on a separate tab as you fix the errors. The validation toolbar also includes a Find button for searching all tabs of the validation window for a particular string.
The granular details provided by the XMLSpy XML validator make troubleshooting and XML project management considerably faster and more effective. See how the strong validation provided by XMLSpy makes creating valid XML documents and identifying errors easy. Download a free, 30-day trial now. | ![]() |
