Product Review: MapForce Receives a Perfect Score from asp.netPRO Magazine

asp.netPRO Magazine recently reviewed Altova MapForce and gave it a perfect score – 5 out of 5 stars! MapForce is referred to as an 'absolutely fantastic tool' for integrating data in disparate formats.

“MapForce does take time to learn, but it's a powerful tool with many features, so you have to expect that,” says reviewer David Mack, a Senior Software Engineer for Northrop Grumman-TASC. “However, the learning curve is absolutely worth it; it pays off when you start to migrate data in days instead of weeks. If you have to migrate data from various sources (especially with different schemas), download the free trial and put MapForce to the test.”

Case Study: Altova Partner Creates Web-based Solution Using MapForce

In 2007, Fitz and Floyd, a leader in the design and manufacture of hand painted ceramic giftware approached Wrycan, an Altova partner focused on content-centric XML expertise and related software development, to help create a solution that would allow Fitz and Floyd to interface their existing CRM system with their new MarketLive, Web-based storefront application.

The solution needed to automatically synchronize Fitz and Floyd's product data with the MarketLive storefront application to ensure that customers would receive real-time inventory information. It also needed to be simple to use, easy to maintain, cost effective, and completed on time, so they could put their new storefront into production promptly.

Fitz and Floyd's existing data was housed in an Oracle 8.0.5 database and was organized according to internal requirements. In order to transform their data into a format that would work with MarketLive's storefront application, Fitz and Floyd needed to map their database data to the XML Schema used by MarketLive.

With MapForce, Wrycan was able to create an application to convert the data from the Oracle database to the format defined by MarketLive’s XML Schema. Now Fitz and Floyd has an easy to use data integration layer that can automatically transfer any updates made to their database directly to the MarketLive application in a format that it can readily understand.

In addition to exhibiting, Altova will lead a presentation at this year's show. Join Altova's educational specialist, Dr. Nick Nagel, at the IBM Information on Demand conference where he will discuss how to manage XML data in pureXML databases.

  • Session: 2637B XML-Driven Data Management in the World of pureXML
  • Date: Tuesday, October 16
  • Time: 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM
  • Location: Mandalay Bay South Convention Center - Mandalay Bay B

The presentation will address a 'top-down' approach to data modeling using XSD (XML Schema Definition language) with implications for data storage and retrieval as pureXML. Strategies for storing information in XML formats will be considered along with implications for retrieval and presentation using XML-based standards such as XPath 2.0 and XQuery.
