Authentic Browser |
Altova® Authentic® 2008 Browser Edition enables users to edit XML documents based on StyleVision Power Stylesheets (.sps files) created in StyleVision.
Authentic Browser is a unique solution that allows live XML content editing from any desktop (client) in your organization that uses Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher. The installation package of the Authentic Browser plug-in is stored on a server and is installed on a client when the client opens an HTML page containing an OBJECT element that defines the Authentic Browser Plug-in as an object. The XML document is edited within the client's browser interface. This enables various users to access and edit an XML document via their browsers. It is a strategy that dramatically eases organization-wide deployment and application maintenance while also reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).
This XML editing solution is based upon open standards, such as XML Schema and XSLT, and is fully Unicode compatible. It uses Altova's Authentic View interface as the editing interface within the HTML page. The Authentic View interface enables users to edit XML files in a WYSIWYG fashion, i.e. without seeing the underlying XML code. There is also no need for extra software deployment since the plug-in is embedded in Internet Explorer.
The Authentic Browser is an ActiveX control where the COM interface is defined by the Authentic object. The complete object model is described in the Objects section of this documentation.
Implementing the Authentic Browser solution
In order to implement the Authentic Browser solution, you need to do the following:
| • | Download Authentic Browser from the Altova website and save it to a location on your server. |
| • | Create the XML Schema, StyleVision Power Stylesheet (SPS), and XML (or XML Template) files. The SPS file (created with Altova's StyleVision product) defines how the XML file will be displayed in Authentic View and how data is entered into the XML file. The XML file (or a Template XML file) is the XML file that will be edited with Authentic Browser. For details about creating the SPS file and associating an XML file with it, see the StyleVision documentation. |
| • | For DB-based StyleVision Power Stylesheets, you need to ensure certain settings in the SPS, on the server, and on the clients. These settings are described in Requirements for DB-based SPS. |
Note: When the user opens an HTML file containing an Authentic object for the first time, the Authentic Browser plug-in is downloaded from the server and installed as a plug-in on the client's browser application. No separate or additional installation steps are required.
