<xsl:template match="*">
	<xsl:copy>
		<xsl:copy-of select="@*"/>
		<xsl:attribute name="id">
			<xsl:value-of select="generate-id()"/>
		</xsl:attribute>
		<xsl:apply-templates/>
	</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

...will create a copy of your input adding an attribute 'id' to each
element that is unique for that transform. As the same id cannot be be
guaranteed across multiple runs of the same transform it might not be
what you are after.
