I thought the namespace was 'marc:'. No, "marc" may be the prefix assigned the namespace in some document; but namespace prefixes can be switched, as long as they resolve to the same URI. This is a feature: the whole idea of namespaces is to allow us to avoid name collisions. If "marc" were wired to a tagset for MARC (the cataloging rules) what would MARC the Maryland commuter rail system do?
