Oracle is also presenting some interesting developments.

At Amesterdam's iDevelop 2000 I got interesting presentations
related with XML indexing (Intermedia and iFS). What I saw
there was made more interesting by a posting of Steve Muench,
including the following fragment:
 > We've demoed publically our prototype XPath query support
> over relational database contents, and have work well
> underway to unify XPath queryability over both tables and
> document fragment contents, so the moral of the story is
> please "stay tuned".

So, there is still no prediction of a XSLT processor taking
advantage of indexed XML, but, at least, the XPath support by
Microsoft and Oracle is a promising step.

Take a look at SQL 2000 and more particularly at the XML features. Microsoft
made a presentation recently at the Seattle XML SIG about a new feature. It
seems from what the Microsoft guy showed at the presentation that SQL 2000
will support Xpath addressing.
