You can grab a pre-compiled binary of Xerces-C++ for your platform (or install one from your distribution's repository, if you are on GNU/Linux): http://xerces.apache.org/xerces-c/download.cgi The package includes a number of examples that can be used to validate XML documents. For instance, SAXCount will give you a list of errors in a document or the count of elements and attributes if there are none.
