RE: [xml-dev] XML not ideal for Big Data

XML is a reasonable text format for data. Some advantages is that it can be
self describing with its corresponding schema and element names.

But if you are writing some code to load an RDB table with millions of rows
and you need an intermediary persistent format - use CSV files - CSV is a
text format that has been around for likely 40 years.

It is all about appropriate technology - the "appropriate" part requires
thinking and choosing.

With respect to his comments on MathML and LaTeX and XML as a document
format I think he gets outside his core big data hypothesis and into a more
open battle ground where the battle for format usage is still in play and
XML has made some significant inroads as the lingua franca for content
although I have to respect TeX as a formidable technology.

Perhaps there were better ways to have made XML work with his
problems... but I think on the whole he's right.
