I'm sad to pass on the news that Norbert Mikula passed away this week. Norbert was very active in the early XML community. He wrote one of the first validating parsers, was CTO of the pioneering XML company DataChannel, and held leadership roles at OASIS and JTC1. More recently he worked at Intel, and since 2007 in the central standards team at Microsoft.
See http://www.legacy.com/SeattleTimes/DeathNotices.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonId=122901048 . There's a field there in which those who knew him can pass on messages to his family.
