Re: [xml-dev] Is "markup" a noun or a verb? Do you "markup data"or "wrap data in tags"?

Close, Roger, but maybe no cigar.

All of US (presumably Markup professionals)
would say (at least to each other) that we marked up
the data. And all the academics (TEI, LoC, Women Writer's
Project, etc.) would say that.

But most PEOPLE talk like the CEO of MarkLogic talks,
and not only prefer "tagged" to "marked up", but tend
to lose the tag/element distinction that most of us
view as critical to understanding.

You may state which the pros find is best practice,
but I think you should also admit there is a
popular culture alternative. Those have a habit
of taking over the language over the long term.
(Contact IS a verb now, as well as a noun, for all
that purists may howl.)

And since the definition of "tagging" is usually
"applying markup to the date", why not?
