I think you're a bit confused here - schema-aware transforms and
XQueries are one thing, validating your input using a combination of
XML Schema + XPath is another.
Schema-aware transforms/XQueries require XML Schema - if you so wished
you could implement some form of validation yourself using a
combination of XSLT, XQuery and XML Schema[1], but when you talk about
"Schema Aware" its purely about XML Schema.
