This just isn't true. And since your have a @gmail address, I can only assume you were using an Ajax application that included form fields when you wrote this.
But I agree that this question would be better asked on an Ajax-specific list.
In general, the flow you're describing would look something like:
1) User fills out form and clicks a button
2) Button's associated JavaScript assembles a DOM object including the form fields.
3) DOM object is posted with XMLHttpRequest
4) PHP does some processing of the submitted XML document and returns something
5) XMLHttpRequest's listener gets returned value and displays on the page.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, but Ajax is a series of patterns for client-server applications. It's entirely legitimate to have some PHP pages as part of an Ajax application.
