Agreed.

It's also true that even when you're the entrenched leader with the better
product, there's no guarantee you'll stay in that position. We saw that with
Borland C++ in the '90s. Borland believed it could take the developer community
in a different direction instead of supporting APIs that had gained broad
industry support.

Today XML Schema has that broad industry support. Alternatives such as RELAX
will succeed in being complementary, but not as an XSD replacement, unless
something happens like Eclipse (IBM investing millions).
