Why is that important?

I'm serious. One of the lessons I've
learned along the way is that markup for
markup's sake is not a good idea. And
while we can tout the shared costs of
the framework footprint, it still comes
down to 'markup for markup's sake'.

Why is XML important to Office?

Except that now Word and the rest of Office is evolving into XML authoring software.
