My suggestion is to define a global parameter that you set before you 
run the transformation. You would do that from outside of the XSLT with 
the API the XSLT processor of your choice offers. For instance with 
Microsoft's XslCompiledTransform you would define an XsltArgumentList 
instance, add the parameter and pass that XsltArgumentList object to the 
Transform method of the XslCompiledTransform instance.

Is there an XSLT processor that supports an xsl:script element? I don't 
know. But that is certainly not the suggestion I made.
