How to do conditional formatting of output string(concatinate)?

Hi,
  I have XML in the following format
<Parent>
   <chkbox1>true</chkbox1>
   <chkbox2>false</chkbox2>
   <chkbox3>true</chkbox3>
</Parent>

How can i generate an output using the following logic in XSL?
string s;
if(chkBox1 == true)
     s = "value1";
if(chkbox2 == true )
{
    if(s.Length > 0)
        s += "," + "value2"
     else
        s = value2
}

In short i want to add a coma to the output string before adding the next
value only if there is some value in the string..I am very new to xslt and i
am not sure if i can use a variable and if so how to get this done..Thanks
for your help....
