Your assumptions are correct. You can download the .NET Framework 3.5 poster:

The poster is nice and grapical which tell you what is supported on the 
lastest release of the CF. (There some bugs with this with regards to the 
System.Net.Sockets, some classes are supported on CF the drawing says 
otherwise).

Of course alternatively, look on MSDN.
