With XSLT you can define a global parameter e.g.
   <xsl:param name="selected-color"/>
then you can set that parameter before you run the transformation. You 
can then use that parameter as $selected-color in your XPath expressions.
How you set such a parameter depends on the API your XSLT processor 
exposes. If you need more detailed help on that then tell us whether you 
use MSXML or XslCompiledTransform.
