If, say, IE8 were to use MSXML6 by default would it have the same limitation (not that I expect you to have a definitive answer)? After reading things like: " The Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 release provides standards-conformant implementations of: XML 1.0 (DOM & SAX2 APIs) XML Schema (XSD) 1.0 XPath 1.0 XSLT 1.0 " I must assume that MSXML6 _is_ able to perform the transform if passed just the one document, but that the other parts of the system (like IE) that call it aren't as "conformant".
