Hiding Table Rows

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry if this is the wrong NG for this question. If it is please tell
me where to post it.

I have a XSLT contractor doing some programming for me. What we are doing
is I am giving him an XML file that has a bunch of items (text string) that
are hieratically organized, and he is transforming this XML data to be
displayed in a Table with each item displayed on a separate row in a table
along with 2 or 3 columns to its left showing numerical information.

Each item also has a +/- next to it that allows the user to expand and
collapse items showing and hiding its children.

Now what the XSLT contractor is doing is actually using multiple tables
attached to each other to accomplish the expand/collapse functionality.
(There can be multiple levels of inheritance, and every item has only one
parent. Much like directory tree)

The problem is that by doing this is that the vertical lines separating the
columns don't line up correctly when the window is resized.

He is telling me that there is nothing we can do about it unless we set the
table to a fixed size, where when the user resizes the window the table does
not resize itself to fit the width of the browser window.

My Question: Can rows of a table be hidden/shown dynamically on the client
side? So that when the user presses the +/- button next to each item we
can show or hide the rows that represent the children of that item.

Thanks
AliR.
