There is no dynamic XPath evaluation specified/supported by the XPath 
1.0 or XSLT 1.0 standard thus if you have a variable with a string value 
where the string is an arbitrary XPath expression then you either have 
to look for an extension function your preferred XSLT processor might 
support or you have to do several transformations, e.g. you could write 
one transformation taking that XPath expression and creating an XSLT 
stylesheet processing that node.
