I think possibly you might want to avoid the 'marquee' tag in any
case, as it's depracated and shouldn't be used in XHTML markup - which
you'll end up using at some point in the future. 

One of the best scrollers I've seen, and one which should be easy to
configure and keep in sync is Grey Wyvern's "OrcaScroller" :
