Martin, thank you! Just what I was looking for.

The XSLT I'm creating has to display SOAP requests from a logging table that
have XML documents passed as strings, like this:
<soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema">
  <soap:Body>
    <PlaceOrder xmlns="..."
soap:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/">
<orderType>P</orderType>
<xmlOrderString>
<ORDER>
    <HEADER>
...
    </HEADER>
</ORDER></xmlOrderString>
    </PlaceOrder>
  </soap:Body>
</soap:Envelope>

The embedded document has to be well-formed by itself, so this is not an
issue here.

Regards, Igor
