WordML and Schema

I am trying to create a Schema validate XMl file from a
Word 2003 document.

I have created a Word article template and marked it up
with an attached Schema. The article contains a
headline, subhead, one image, and text body. The text
may contain special characters and hypertext links. I
need these and the image. Formatting need not be
preserved.

If I just Save the document as XML with "data only"
checked, I get the XML I need except for missing images
and hypertext links in the body text. I have the image
marked with <thumbnail> image.jpg </thumbnail>. These
tags show up in the output with no data. I can deal with
the Word binhex64 data if it could be insterted along
with the hypertext links.

If I turn-off the save with data only i get everything
including all the unwanted word formatting tags. I tried
the XSLFO style sheet but it doesn't perserve my tags and
has the formatting.

Please help!
