Oleg, I was thinking to set the variable expression as an external
parameter, which is set before transform (compile) time. I was looking
for at way to pass the parameter into the xsl:sort.


Joe, a nice workaround. Why didn't I think of that as I'm already
setting xsl:param values that way :) However, I had hoped to contain
as much xpath and xslt-code within the xsl source itself. I will
consider this option if nothing else turns up.
