using xsl:value-of inside of img tag

This is probably a simple thing but I can't seem to find the answer for it
anywhere. I have an .xml file with a tag somewhat like the one below:

<article_pic>www.somewhere.com/pic.jpg</article_pic>

I then have an .xsl file I am building to display the data in the .xml file.
In the .xsl file I have a line something like this:

<img src ="<xsl:value-of select="home/main_article/article_pic" />" align
="left" />

I figured (incorrectly) that this would then display the pic at the url
within the tag <article_pic> in my .xml file. However this caused a syntax
error and will not load the pic. When I take this line out of my .xsl file
the rest of the page displays perfectly.

Can someone please advise me on where I might want to look for an answer to
this problem or which direction I should go in order to pull the location of
an image file from an .xml file and display it using XSLT? Thank you so
much.
