It seems IE doesn't know ' so that is why you get an error. Mozilla and Opera seem to know '. ' is not listed in the HTML 4 specification so it seems a HTML browser doesn't need to support it. Which XSLT processor are you using? Are you using <xsl:output method="html" /> ?
