It seems IE doesn't know &apos; so that is why you get an error. Mozilla 
and Opera seem to know &apos;. &apos; is not listed in the HTML 4 
specification so it seems a HTML browser doesn't need to support it.

Which XSLT processor are you using?
Are you using
   <xsl:output method="html" />
? That should hopefully prevent &apos; from being used when the result 
tree is being serialized.
