Are you using the .NET framework's System.Xml.XmlDocument? Or some 
version of MSXML? Which one?

As for the problem, I am afraid you are using the web interface to the 
newsgroup and that way your description does not show us the problem as 
you say  "<" is being replaced by "<"' which would be no replacement at 
all. So currently it is not clear at all what the problem is. You have 
some XML string and load that with loadXML. Does that loadXML call give 
you an error, if so, which one exactly?
