It sounds like some sort of internal application. You absolutely
cannot guarantee the users will enter any sort of valid XML in the
textarea box, and checking for various non-conformances is going to
costt you bigtime in terms of programming time.

I'd recommend stumping up for a server license of XStandard X(HT)ML
editor for use there and in other places : http://xstandard.com/

You might find the evaluation step will allow you to setup custom XML
grammars and generally make your life a great deal easier for a few $
