It's actually fairly simple using the windows media player SDK object model, the WMDB database is a binary DB but there are export methods you can use. Dale Preston wrote one such XML exporter http://www.dalepreston.com/Blog/2007/03/windows-media-player-metadata-backup.html You should be able to parse that file, set attributes and element text and push it back to WMP from the dump there.
