IE 6/7 can use MSXML 3 as an XSLT processor to transform XML to HTML
thus if you have an XSLT document transforming to HTML then put a
processing instruction
<?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="stylesheet.xsl"?>
in your XML document before the root element, then you can load the XML
document with IE and it applies the stylesheet and renders the HTML
result of the transformation.
Mozilla and Opera 9 can also do that, I think Safari 2 too.

Client-side XSLT is just one way to use XSLT, of course you can also run
an XSLT transformation from the command line (for instance using
msxsl.exe
<URL:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2fb55371-c94e-4373-b0e9-db4816552e41&displaylang=en>)
and you can programmatically run XSLT transformations.
