I don't think you can simply assign but you should be able to with a cast.

MXSML2::IXMLDOMDocumentPtr x
CComPtr<MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocument> y

y = (MSXML2::IXMLDOMDocument*) x

Whether an AddRef is called in this case I'm not sure.  The CComPtr
documentation doesn't say.

or

y.attach(x.detach())

In this case AddRef is not called but ownership is of the pointer is moved
leaving x == null without calling release.

you would have to check carefully whether AddRef gets called
