How to read XML data

i have a XML file with nested tags like

<category name="nature" id=12344" Starttime="12.00" date="11122007">
<event name="water" id="12233" >
<eventtype name="seawater" amount="23%">
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
</eventtype>
</event>

<event name="water" id="12233" >
<eventtype name="seawater" amount="23%">
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
</eventtype>
</event>

<event name="water" id="12233" >
<eventtype name="seawater" amount="23%">
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
<type name="salt" content="3233"/>
</eventtype>
</event>
</category>

How do i parse these contents to get them in grid format and save it
to database.
is there any way to achieve this
can anyone give idea like how to start with
am new to use XML data
so plz help me on this regard
