What about opening it in an XML editor? If you pick one that can set the 
default (ie unstyled) rendering of elements in element content to block 
mode, and the default rendering of elements in mixed content to inline, 
then you should get enough to make it both readable and editable.

(I think epcEdit at least has this ability, probably many others)
