Emacs + psgml + xxml, but simple is not a word you can use about
XML editors because it means different things to different people.
There is a set of about 70 functions which all XML editors provide
and the only real difference is in how accessible they are. That in
turn depends on the market at which the editor is aimed -- clearly
a publisher of textbooks is going to have different requirements to
the owner of a web site, who is going to have different requirements
to someone handling e-commerce messages or database uploads.

It's good, but it's Windows-only, so its application in some fields
is limited.
