FAQ: http://http://xml.silmaril.ie/authors/cdata/

CDATA is designed to allow authors to include examples of verbatim markup
(ie preventing the less-than and ampersand from being interpreted as markup)
It is not designed as a way to pass broken markup or illegal characters
through the parser and application to the output.

If you want something ignored, it should go in a <!-- comment -->
