Ah yeah thats great,

do you think

//count(RootNode//*)   <---gave an answer of 72

so what is it counting, it can't be the number of nodes as theres only
about 40. Maybe its totaling the value of the POD detail.

Do you think using the axis 'following::' or 'descendant-or-self::'
would give the same answer. I'm unsure about how to use it at the
moment, how to structure the syntax, but i should get it if i keep
reading.

Also I was thinking about getting a result from the 2nd instance of the
root detail like this--

child::<node-test>[position() < 2]

any help with this?

Thanks
