I have basically the same problem with special chars. First: I have an asp-page that creates my xml-file. The content of that file is well-formed xml. Every 'record' comes from a database and is written with a 'Do While Not'- routine. Before that routine, I write the appropriate headers. Anyway... It is a database with names of people, cities from all over the world. Characters like ä and ø and what-have-you-not are common. I can't work with a 'Replace-routine' for every field and every char that might be in the content. That would be nonsense! Please tell me that xml can be used to work for people outside Silicon Valley. An additional script-line in the header to set the char-set to be used, or encoding.. anything!
